Welcome!

My name is Alan Fuenmayor. I have been in the hardwood flooring industry for 22 years, of which, most of them, I lived in the south (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina).

Through my web site, I wish to inform and educate you so you can make a wise choice when buying your hardwood floors. After all, it is a big investment.

There are basically 2 types of wood floors: Nail down applications and Glue down applications. The pros and cons of these are:

Solid Nail Down

¾” of an inch thick of solid wood. Some are ½” thick

Up to 10 times sanding and finishing, if done professionally.

Unlimited choice in color since it is a custom finish.

¾” or 5/8” plywood sub floor needed, even though there are some solid wood floors that glue down.

Not as stable to moisture as engineer products. Moisture barrier needed.

Job site finish. More control on the sheen.

Pre-Finished Glue Down Engineer

Engineer core with thin solid upper wood layer.

Sand and finish once or twice only.

Limited choice in color. Factory finished.

Glues down to concrete slab.

Engineer core makes it very stable to moisture for above or below grade installations.

Being factory manufactured, finishes are generally harder.

Also, it is good to know that solid wood floors cost more than pre-finished and are a better value. There are also some solid pre finished for glue down applications out there, but usually more expensive.

I hope this information will help you, so your decision can be one that you will enjoy for years to come. I invite you to scroll through my picture gallery to see some of the work I have done.

Sincerely yours,

Alan J. Fuenmayor
